About this video

Carving on a foil is silky smooth but to start with can feel pretty unsteady. But it’s one of the most fundamental techniques and when combined with good toeside riding, you can ride endlessly on the foil, stay dry and start exploring the ocean. In this video we’ll help you understand the co-ordination of your kite and foil along with the correct body position what will be vital to staying in control through out the carve. Here we are focused on flying the kite over the top of the window, which is far easier for most kitefoiler before you move on to downloops which we cover in the next video.

Overview

In this video we are going to focus on your first Progressions with the kite flying over the top. In moderate winds, with a medium sized foil:

1. First, we’ll look at the Heelside to Toeside carve, sending the kite over the top and all the fundamental key elements for your kite, bar, body and foil.

2. Then it’s the Toeside to Heelside carve, building on many of the key elements from the previous progression, but focusing on differences that make this carve unique

3. Now you need to focus on linking these two turns together, S-turning downwind. This short progression will set you up with two drills so you can practice all the elements you have learnt.

And remember we are not worrying about any foot changes at this point. We cover this in detail in the Foiling Foot Changes video.

When you’ve got the basic carve worked out then have a go at adding downloops for constant power, something that can be really helpful in lightwinds or when underpowered.
